    What a great video. Thanks so much for information re not harvesting the corma.I have seen other people use pot extenders to make existing pots taller. I have also seen people reuse a clear starbucks cup by cutting the side and wrapping around the base of the stem. Ive only seen this for anthurium and never an alocasia so maybe it wouldnt work 😅

    That would be the plant I would buy, if I could only buy one. I could not have walked away without that hoya. A local shop has one, but more than double the price. I would also have picked up the snail pot. Beautiful plant shop with good selection and prices! We have a nice plant shop locally. I found my baby Thai Constellation there for $40.

    I got my baby Stingray with two leaves for $14.99. She is gaving me a new leaf and I have had her for only two weeks. I adore this plant. I have a Manjula and it is a slow grower, but beautiful. I finally found my Maranta Silver Band for $29 and it has 15 leaves in a 6" pot. It was definitely on my wish list for a while! I also have the Hoya Compacta Varagata on my wishlist at that size. Okay you got me, adding a Black Maranta to my wishlist! It is gorgeous. But it will need to come down in price. The plant at the top of my list is a Varigated Cast Iron plant.

    • @AammaK
      @AammaK 12 годин тому

      What part exactly? I think they look just beautiful, like live plants. To each their own, I guess. I mean, it's fine to give up plants you no longet want to take care of. But they won't be at their prime infinitely, they go trough cycles and often come back around even.

    • @LeafyConversations
      @LeafyConversations 9 годин тому

      @@AammaK What part? The long corm specifically. Each plant collector has a limit on what is right for them and I am just saying “for me” I wouldn’t keep it around at this stage. Of course, if the time comes I am as fortunate to have a Alocasia for 2 years I may change my tune. 🥹

    Another great video, Drea. Love how your channel isn't just "latest greatest ___________" (specimen, substrate, fad) but a collection of reference videos. I think it was Jeff at Everything Plants that showed how to wrap moss (? can't remember) around those gawky alocasia necks, so that roots came off and then the whole plant could be put in a deeper pot; not sure if he also did a chop 'n' prop as well. I grow alocasia and colocasia outside in our mild Puget Sound climate, bringing them in when/if temps fall to 32*F. Enough rambling ...

    Could you air layer the top & then cut it off?

    • @AlohaPlantLife
      @AlohaPlantLife 23 години тому

      That would work as well as long as once you cut it off after it’s done getting roots you let it callus over on that open end well before potting it up. You’d have to keep the roots moist while letting it callous over too.

  • @sonyad.5942

    I keep trying with Alocasias, but not hard enough! I have a small Silver Dragon and a Polly. The Polly I’ve had for a few years, but it dies back and now I only have one corm with one leaf and tiny leaf that is trying to put out. Another smaller corm wasn’t doing anything. I’ll try your bottle cap method again. I tried it nearly two years ago after your video first came out, but I forgot to cover them and the water kept drying up before I remembered to check!

    I had a Syngonium that I bought years ago. I called it the arrowhead plant. When I brought it inside in the fall, it was big and better than I ever seen it. Big leaves, very bushy. As te warmer weather approached, it began dying out. By the time the growing season came. It was gone. I had that plant before the internet. I was totally devastated 😢

    I have and love the Syngonium tricolor, my favorite. I also love the red leaf one and the Albo. I also like the pink splash. I have others, but these head the list.

    I would love an update on this to hear if it's still working well for you!

    I dont really use them anymore but I used to cut up stick fertilizers in smaller chunks/granules and mix it in the top layer.
